Objective 4.4: Expand Transport Zone to Include New Cluster(s)

  • Function of Transport Zone
    • Need to know how many transport zones are needed for your deployment
    • A transport zone is the compute diamater defined by a set of vCenter Clusters
      • Collection of ESXi hosts
    • Zone defines a collection of ESXi hosts that can communicate with each other across a physical network
    • Extends across one or more ESXi clusters
      • Determines scope of logical switches
    • Makes things simple, extends reach of VXLAN network

  • Addition of Transport Zone
    • Know the UI layout
      • Click logical network preparation > Transport Zone
      • New Transport Zone, type name and description
      • Select control plane mode
        • Multicast
        • Unicast
        • Hybrid
      • Select Cluster to be added to the new TZ

  • Expand Transport Zone/Edit
    • Why need expand?
      • To add clusters to transport zone to become available on newly added clusters
      • You can also contract transport zones as well
      • Take a look at pg48 of The admin Guide
      • You can remove hosts and add hosts to a cluster instead of new zone for that host item
    • Summary tab displays the name and description of transport zone as well as the number of logical switches

  • Editing the Control Plane mode of the Transport Zone
    • The control plane mode determines the fundamental behavior of the overlay network function
    • Logical switch replication mode inherited by default from transport zone mode
    • Hit Edit settings icon in the transport zone details section to edit the control plane mode of the transport zone
    • migrate existing logical switches to the new control plane mode
